2010: A look back

What a year 2010 has been. Plenty of excitement, disappointment, tragedy and hope all round.

2010 will be remembered as the year of Icelandic volcanoes and gunmen in Cumbria; many other natural disasters, too many to count. Greece and Ireland went bust, and we only narrowly avoided it. The country froze - twice - and came to a complete standstill. Several good TV series came to an end (24, Lost, for example).

But not all was bad. England did laughably badly in the World Cup. We no longer have a Labour government. However, even after looking at Wikipedia's "2010" page, I'm struggling to find much more that I can look back on in 20 years time and say "yeah, 2010, that was the year that happened".

Overall, 2010 has been a pretty dreary year. It started out with so much promise, globally, but disaster after crisis after scandal has meant it will be a year remembered for the bad rather than the good.

Here's to a memorable 2011!
